Tips & tricks

Wait for a good fix

Let the GPS settle to good accuracy before you start — sampling is accuracy-aware and ignores noisy fixes, so a clean start means a cleaner track.

Drop waypoints as you go

Mark junctions and hazards in real time; dictate the note hands-free with voice-to-text so you keep your eyes on the trail.

Snap geotagged photos

Each photo pins to its position on the track, ready to turn into notes later in the Editor.

Pause at stops

Pause/resume while parked so standstill time doesn't add noise or drift to the recording.

It's crash-safe

The track is checkpointed continuously and recovered if the app or device closes; in the native app it keeps recording with the screen locked.

Photos need an account + a GPS fix

You can snap photos of your waypoints. Photos are a server-side, account-bound feature: sign in and start a recording (a draft roadbook is enough). The WP-photo button only appears once the draft and a GPS fix exist; until there's a fix the app shows “Waiting for a GPS fix…” and can't geolocate.

Photos become geolocated pins

Each photo is pinned at the exact GPS position where you took it (as accurate as the GPS at that moment — a few metres), right on the GPX track. In the Editor you review the photo pins on the map and turn them into notes at the right point.

WP audio: hold to record

Hold the WP-audio button to record a voice note at the waypoint; on release a short on-button countdown keeps recording, then saves automatically. It saves the audio clip (replay it on the note in the Editor); on desktop it also transcribes live — on phones the microphone is exclusive, so for dictated text use the Waypoint button's mic.
